Fantastic, outstanding, out-of-this-world, there are no superlatives grand enough to describe the performance of Chichester Cormorants’ swimmers in the third and final round of this year’s National Arena League.
Going into the gala Chichester were ranked 8th and no matter what happened in the lower gala this would be the lowest place that we could finish when the final league positions were known. However, our swimmers didn’t want to settle for eight and produced what what must be the best performance in living memory to finish 5th on the night with 207 points, 40 points ahead of Windsor and 48 points ahead of Worthing.
With league points counting double in the third round Chichester managed to overturn a 4 point deficit with Worthing and both teams finished the league with 17 points. It therefore came down to gala points and Chichester’s performance on the night secured 5th place overall with 669 points compared to Worthings 657.
