Chichester Cormorants Swimming Club

Friday newsletter, 5 May

First up, congratulations to Adam Long: 00:59:74 for 100m freestyle, which ranks Adam 12th in the county. It’s not even his best event! The minute is a fabled barrier and dipping under it is a big deal. Adam’s obviously on a hot streak: he also raced 50m breaststroke at the SE Regional Championships recently and put in a strong time, despite having a big off on his tandem (yes, tandem: Newsletter‘s spies are clear on this point) days before.

We have three sets of Cormorants entered for the Lions Club Swimathon on the 13th May. Our teams will no doubt be swimming their hearts out in an effort to raise money for charity (and the club): if you’d like to sponsor them, there will be forms at the desk on Friday.

Two good ones coming up soon! See previous posts for online entry forms to:
• Vanessa Knight Open Meet at Arun Leisure Centre on 28 May. NOTE THE CLOSING DATE IS THIS WEEKEND
• SWOOYS at Waterlooville on 10 and 11 June: there will be coaches poolside for the morning sessions at least, when the 400-metre races take place (girls Saturday, boys Sunday)

Volunteer camera operator needed! If you’d be willing to spend some time poolside taking video of swimmer technique to assist the coaches, please email and or contact Darren Sims.

The Swimzi Shop orders that were made in March are due to be delivered to Swimzi 23 May, so we’re hoping they’ll be with us by Fri 26 May.

If anyone doesn’t have a club polo – essential wear for the young swimmer about town, and required costume poolside at galas – you can order one from the swim desk on Fridays. We have some to try on for size.

If you’re buying other swimwear, clicking through the link from the club website to Pro Swimwear earns the club 10% cash-back, which is really welcome. There are some good offers on swimwear there at the moment.

With regret we have to report that no one has yet kicked in a weekend in Paris as a raffle prize for the Summer Sprints. There’s still time! Less glamorous prizes would, of course, also be gratefully received at the swim desk on Fridays.
