Squad aims and objectives
- Want to become a competitive swimmer
- Perform pre-pool dynamic-stretching routine
- Swim 66m (33m butterfly) of all strokes with basic technique; develop good, technically correct front crawl; develop technically correct kicking technique on breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly
- Understand use of breath and aquatic breathing in swimming
- Consistently plant feet solidly on wall and push off strongly into a streamline at turns; perform a fast, tucked forward somersault from a floating position
- Perform a dive from the starting block and a shallow dive at the shallow end
- Effective use of training equipment (drink bottle, fins and kickboard)
- Attempt to perform basic training skills such as reading the pace clock, listening and questioning
- Compete in club championships, and galas if invited
- Perform test sets to a standard suitable for promotion to the Silver squad
Squad changes are at the lead coach's discretion. Swimmers will be considered for promotion to Silver Squad after swimming the test set with a fastest time of roughly 3:10.00, with a drop-off to their slowest time of no more than 15 seconds. At that point, the lead coach will assess them against the criteria above.

- Snorkel.
Competition expectation
- Enter and swim all four strokes and IM in both Summer Sprints and Winter Club Championships.
- Swim in club galas when invited
